My Week in New York

Ok..for those interested parties...if that does not include you skip this :-P

So i rode up to SRU last sunday and did a few tweaks of myu designs. I had to spraypaint a pair of shoes back to tan and dig up a few items. Then I stayed over with my friend Stef who is absolutely the loudest girl i know hands down. Her and her roomates were a riot, but i was up amazingly late to start this whole thing off.

I didn't sleep much on the way there, as i had lots of things to keep my attention. In my van was Reba (professor and sort of my costumes mentor)Emily (My old roomie of 1 year), Bethany( my hysterical little from my fraternity), Kelly (Another techie whom i hadn't the opportunity to get very close to when i was there but her and i got along so well), Steph (Stage Manager/Designer--quiet tiny little thing with a huge personality when i comes out), Nick (guy i had a crush on at one point/ techie...oye thats embarassing to admit), Dennis (big guy from english classes also an actor), and Chris (I'd never met him before. We were the quiet van...everyone on the other van was loud and wild and apparently fond of singing show tunes at the top of their lungs.

So we got all of our stuff set up. I did not have a name tag for 3 days. *groan*, but i got settled in to the hotel. i stayed with Reba so i had a whole bed to myself, which was awesome, but i wound up spending alot of time in bethany, kelly, Steph and Emily's room. Every night Kelly and i watched Law and Order SVU. LOL..it's amazing how much we have in common and never knew.

The first day I had to put up my exhibit and go to a few workshops. i wetn to one on Costume Rendering (like painting and drawing) using markers only. it was amazing and now i want to go buy markers to try it. That night I hung out with Kelly and Bethany much of the night. I think maybe thats when i texted Ceci too. We needed to know what "tengo miedo" meant because that was an away message Kelly's g/f had up and she was all parnoid.

Over the next few days I went to a few other workshops and saw a series of plays:

"Searching for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Uterus" which was about the conservative viewpoint. They took well known conservative politicians and public figures and basically made fun of them in a cabaret style show. Ann Coulter was screwing around with both Bill O'Reilly and Donald Rumsfeld and wound up getting pregnant to O'Reilley. She went to have the fetus aboreted but a pro life group stole fetuses that day and had them implanted in other women. So her baby grew up with....yes two mommies. Way to freak out a conservative. it was a big joke and would have been excelent if the actors could actually sing. *cringe* Mean of me but true

"The Oresteia" - a greek tragedy by Aeshchelus. Ity takes place after the fall of troy. it was good except the gods had like a rock-star image which kinda came out of nowhere. I was also not super fond of the chorus' last costume change. They should have kept them more covered as not all of them were twigs. :(

"Stop Kiss" - We actually did this at my uni. My roomate was in it. She did an excellent job too, to which these girls were comparative. It is about two girls in NYC who wind up falling in love and that very night get drawn into a hate-crime. It's really touching, though the second time lost a little of novelty for me. Not sure if it was becauwse i'd already seen it or because it wasn't as good. I do have to give the director credit though. She really made alot of the little messages in the lines more clear through the movement and excecution. Overall it was funny, and how can a play that uses a real cat ever go wrong. ;)

"Dora : A Story of Hysteria" - No one but me liked this apparently. Its about a case study by Freude. It sort of goes into the whole idea that psychoanalysis plants ideas into the patients head that may not be tru to begin with. Signs were read wrong and in the end it shows how little control over her own life a girl had back in vistorian times.

"Waiting for Godot" - I never really liked this play, but the guys who presented it did an amazing job. The one actor actually got a standing ovation in the MIDDLE of the play because of the insane monologue he did. It had its ups and downs but other than the story iotself i have little to complain about. I like that they did it with the irish accent and all. it made it much more clear to be. "Godot"---God-O. Get the picture?

One of the actors from my own school actually made it all the way to the finals of the acting Competition, the Irene Ryans. It was the first time in 8 years for that. Her name is Deanna Brookens and her partner was Jeff Feola. They did an excellent job, but down at the final 16 there were so many excellent performers. I was very impressed with everyone. Actually they messed her name up on the program during the semi finals and wrote Bronna Brockens. So we all chanted it before she came out. "Bronna Brockens...Bronna Brockens" It was funny.

Mmm.....now the funny stuff.

So SRU (my uni) is doing Little Shop of Horrors this year as their musical and my little, Bethany is to be the big man eating plant. Now ordinarily befroe shows bethany is known to pump people up by portraying this character Aunt Mancy who talks in this weird voice and wears her pants up really high. Shes uspposed to be a tranvestite. Well at fetival the guy who we are borrowing the plant from was there and he was giving her this description of how to work it and she gets inside and starts with the voice, "I'm Aunt Plantcy...i'm gonna bite your head off".

Also in Stop Kiss she took to staring at me with these big doe eyes bewteen every scene. I broke down into a fit of giggles over that one. And kelly started lecturing me about how i've been cheating on her (she claims we've been married for 8 years) and neglecting our child Jaquesha. Those two are wild.

Then I almost lost my pants on the starts while i was carrying my stuff, thank gosh for Reba's help. I also biffed it on the ice in my heals which Steph and Nick witnessed. Luckily I did not fall.

I instigated an ice cream run after sommenting on my craving of it and we made a detaoru on our way back to the hotel to get some from Coldstone which was expensive but really good.

People drank almost every night and they were horrendously loud at times but all of our floor was made up of college kids so it could have been worse. Crhis apparently hooked up with some girl in the bathroom and she kept passing out on him. Also according to the guys he didn't use a condom. I hope he doesn;t get a call from this girl he doesn't even know in a few weks from now saying.."your gonna be a daddy."

Nick and i chatted a bit as he wound up driving everyone around and comign over to hang out in the room i was in. He apparetly has a major soft sopt for animals especially puppies. All in all he seems like a really great guy.

I also really got to know some of the kids i hadn;t a change to before, like Andrea, Erin, Deanna, Aaron, and Casey. It was good catching up with Jeff too. I'm gonna miss them all. A week is a long time when you have to come back and go away again.

Ok so to shorten that all up i had a wonderfully funny week and really enjoyed myself. Now i am glad to be back and hopefully will got to talk to everyone soon. Love you all and missed you all. *snuggles*

Ok Ok...*resists the urge* Gah I fully blame my online friends for making me want to use this to rant, but I shant.

Ok a few little updates:

1. Thinking about Quitting HC. I think some people would prefer that. Only problem, Lori just joined and I'd really hate to abandon her like that. Then again she seems to be doing fine in Hufflepuff. Mmm...All my plots have kind of fell through so i don't think my quitting will have much effect on anyone. For the time being i'm gonna take some time away and see if i can get myself balanced again.

2. Everyone is so depressed lately. I don't know how to handle it. I mean i generally try and stay upbeat, but it does wear on you after a bit.

3. ACTF ( The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival). My first and last chance. I am going to New York this week for a big theatre festival which I've been meant to go to before and never made it to. I'll be showing me designs and I've been workign on my display all week. I mean it's exciting and nerve racking. I cannot leave well enough alone and stop working on it.

So...er thats about it.

Next entry will be more positive.

I can just hear Becca in my head right now telling me that I am on here reading and she knows it, which means that I have to post. Thats her rules, so here I am.

Now is probabaly not the best time to be posting as I'm not in my usual spirits so I'll keep it short and sweet. Or try to anyway...

So Thanksgiving is coming up, and I'm really not nearly as thrilled about it as I should be. It's never really been one of my best holidays, but my family is really trying to pull together and so I guess its good in some ways. I feel like everyone sees it as a chore, rather than a good thing though. The family is not really close knit, but they like to look like they are trying maybe. I don't know. I try....but I do it all wrong I guess. We are going to my aunts at 4, but i hvae to work at 6:30 so...that'll be short lived. I'm supposed to go out with my cousin while she's home too. I wish it wasn't so awkward. Maybe it's me.

Other than that I am applying to schools in Erie and Charlotte now. I just gotta get a full time job or I'm gonna go nutz. This subbing stuff is okay for awhile, but it's getting old fast. Maybe moving away is somthing I really need to do. The look on my mom's face when i mention it guts me though.

Well...thats about it for now. Pretty amazing I got on at all, but Nadya was talkign about it and got me thinking again. maybe i'll get back to checking in here.

I'm a WHAT?!?!?! An Alumni? Eww...

Well I made it...just barely though. Be it out of hunger, exaustion, nerves, or what I wound up sleeping from about 2pm to 9am yesterday. I graduated in a group of nearly 1000. Long...LONG day.

So here it goes...

Friday consisted of a lot of people talkign and congratulating us and thnkign us for giving them all of our money. They were subtle about the money thing but it was obvious. Then i took the internet box back *sniffs*. I cleared out a lot of the stuff in my room and took my roomate to eat and to visit our other roomate at work. *pokes Becca*. Then we rented a movie and stayed up to watch that. So it was fun...not tiring or anything. But it was a bit of a struggle to goto sleep in my relatively empty room, with the door proped wide oipen by big plastic boxes....

Then the day came. I woke up earlyish..like 7:30 maybe. My mom called..she asked if she woke me up...she did but I wasn't gonna say so. besdies my alarm was about to go off anyway. So I put on my clothes, curled my hair, took the movie back, ect. When my parents and my aunt arrived we headed down to the alumni house. I was feelign a bit squeemish at this point. I refused breakfast, i refused to be in the group picture...I felt crabby and out of place. Everyone had their honor cords and medallions for getting such high QPAs and i had nothing...nothing but a nice little zipper pull from the alumni assicioation that everyone gets. I was dissappointed in myself.

When we got back to the care i opened my presents...cards, money, a bear,a keychain and a book...a London Guide with a note that said "London Trip--July 29th 2006" I about screamed. My crappy mood shut off in a second. Our London Passes were to come in the mail and everything is booked.

So then we go to graduation. I was a lot of standing and sitting and listenign to names and names and names. I was 4th in my school to get called due to my last anme beginning with an A...so I went up and when they took the picture my tassle flapped in my face. Go figure.

By the end of the ceremony i was getting a headache...it only got worse after...I hadn't had breakfast so my mom said i should probabaly eat something. The reception only sruved cookies and chocolate though so we got out of there after i said congrats to a few folks and we headed to lunch "wherever I wanted to go" I chose Elephant and Castle, it being my fav restaraunt in the area. (Oddly enough it is in a town called London...I wonder if that was my graduation present...*ponders*) Anyway so...I ordered my Guinness Beef Stew my fav...rtook about 3 bites before getting ill. Then i went to the car and slept while my family ate.

When i got home i packed my stuff and let my dad drive me home. Then i went to sleep. All in all I wound up sleeing from about 2pm till 9am this morning. It was nuts but i was exhausted.

I'll update you later but now i have to go

As I sit here biting my fingernail I wonder...why? I don't ever do that. Why am I now finding the need to chew on my long smooth nails. It's wintertime, not even summer when my chlorine soaked nails soften and bend. They were perfect. Now they are cracked slightly. No, I can't even commit to that description. They are slightly less than perfect.

Do you know that odd disorientation that you feel when you are sick, or have just woken up from a disturbing dream? I feel that now, though I do not know why. I'm not sick and I have been awake for hours. I feel like I'm in the wrong place; somewhere unfamiliar. I'm at home though, sitting in my living room and finishing up my teaching portfolio. Why do I feel lost when I haven't even gone anywhere?

I went to Target after school yesterday while I waited to meet my parents for dinner. It seemed a waste to drive the whole 25 minutes home and back so I just went early and waited. I tried on a summery dress. It always seems wrong trying on linen when you've just walked in from the snow. The dress was pretty. Kind of bohemian. It wasn't really my style but sometimes I feel like I need a change. It was strapless and swirly and it put a cute wraparound mauve sweater over it, but when i looked in the mirror it was all wrong. The outfit was nice, but I looked like someone else. Odd...usually thats the point of new clothes to me.

Dinner was wonderful. The show was fantastic. I know they are only highschoolers but the production was broadway quality. The singing, the acting,...amazing. Of course it was a great script to work with too. I saw the show on broadway and it is so upbeat and fun.

As I drove home afterward I started thinking about identity. i don;t know why my mind works the way it does but its the random little reminders that spark things for me. Thinks you'd never associate somehow change the topic of whatever is on my mind. In the blink of an eye I'll do a complete 180 sometimes. Well anyway I came up with an idea for a book, or a short story at the least. As soon as I have the time and I am in the right mood I'll start plotting it out. The major concept will be this girl who changes herself for the people in her life so often that she has lost all sense of who she really is.

Anyway...it's been awhile since I've updated. I'll try to remedy that. TTFN.

Yay...It's finally my birthday. So to recap the crazy weekend, I relaxed on friday and eventually went out for chinese.

I had to usher for a concert on saturday night. It was Rockapella (They sang the Folgers song and the thme song for Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego...anyone heard of them?) I would up as the runner/Box Office liason so i basically just had to sit backstage in case anyone needed anything from the lobby. I wound up flirting with the manager and did't even know who he was. But he was cute I couldn't help, myself. Then we went to Ghostriders (A country linedancing place) and I about died from my legs giving out after all of the dancing.

Then on Sunday I was a little sick from Saturday night but Braden dragged me out to his place anyway. I played a little bit and napped a little bit than came back here and slept.

And today I have one class and then I go out to dinner with my folks and my aunt whih should be nice.And the coutdown begins to my annual birthday trip. Cedar Point here we come...only 2 weeks to go! :)

Yep kiddies...thats right Mandy's smurfday (We're not calling it a birthday this year because I have been deemed smurfette by two knowlegable parties---Thanks Shaun and Brett. :-P)Is on Monday. Which is ironically enough Also Talk Like a Pirate day. So I'm expecting some messages for you all saying things like "Shiver me timbers" and "Happy birthday matey" on monday!!!

Onto more pressing news... We got our shirts for the first concert that we've been asked to usher for last night and they are SEE-THRU. Now when I say see-thru I'm talking serious visibility here. You can actually see where our arms are in the sleeves. So now there are two options. We wear white bras underneath and let all of the audience see our choice undergarments, or we find some kind of white or tan t-shirt or tank top to wear under it. Only problem is I don't have any white shirts to wear under it. looks like the audience is going to get an eyefull tonight.

My roomate is now calling her boyfriend All State becasue she is always safe with him and now she's taken to calling her, OnStar to be obnoxious as well, so i told them that they are having a baby named Gecko...not Geico which led to a conversation about her having baby geckos crawling down her thighs. And now I am slightly grossed out. How do I always manage to instigate the most disgusting conversations anyway? I must have a gift!!!

Thank God it's friday!!! I didn't think I'd make it this week. Between gettign the flu and a sore throught and eventually the cold I've been feeling pretty crappy. Hopefully after I take a bit of medicine and get soem rest I will perk up. Hot lemonade and/or tea have been my best friends :(

So My britday is on only 3 days. that is semi-exciting news. i told my roomate that I wasn't going to have anymore birthdays and stay 21 forever, btu she made me promise to wait until 25 to stop having birthdays. So I just finished watching American Beauty for the first time the whole way through and I'm feeling kind of weird right now. That was a bizarre movie. The creepy next-door neighbor boy who thinks everything is beautiful and is always getting high and selling drugs totally reminds me of the guy I work with. He's always smiling at me and dancing and stuff while were at work. Then he'll say the randomest things. In the meantime I know he goes out into the back parking lot on break and gets high. The look on the neighbor kid's face at the end of the movie when he sees all the gore left over was so familiar. *shudders*

So the bar was very fun for those of you who are curious about last night. We wound up talking about a lot of questionable topics and drawing attention from people who were there sitting nearby. I don’t go out to the bar very often anymore, but when I do I have a lot of fun.

Today is the day of delays. I was delayed in getting to a class, in getting my bank account set up, and in getting through the line at the grocery store. Now I am really exhausted and kind of irritated, but hopefully everything will turn out all right. At least I missed over half of a super boring class, I now have a checking account to pay my bills with, and I have all of the items I need for my roommates secret birthday party tonight.

When I got home Emily was on the phone talking to her boyfriend who is supposed to be her distracter while Becca and I set up and she was talking about all of the things she has to get done today. Maybe surprise on a Thursday isn't a good idea. Too late now...the wheels are in motion.

Last night I learned about “Preep Shows” (Note : this is not a real thing). After my roommate said Preep instead of Pre I bust out laughing. It sounds to me kind of like some kind of peep show that includes guys in ties and glasses. Emily commented that they should also have pencils.

Tonight I’ll hopefully come home pleasantly drunk and spew out another interesting entry in here. Hopefully the drunk ones will be more interesting than these ones when I am sober. Wait and see!

I went to the health center about my foot today and got the whole "Could you be pregnant" schpeel. I am so tired of it. All I wanted was some nice cleaning stuff for my cut. Oh well!!!

I'm watching Serendipity right now. It's definitely one of my favorite movies. I'm not a huge romantic comedy fan, but this one just gets me. Molly Shannon from SNL is in it and she always makes me laugh, and Kate Beckensale who if I could look like any movie star I'd want to look like, and John Cusak who is not all that attractive but he has something about him that draws me in this movie.
